The International Physical Therapy Academy Policy on Affiliation of Training and Educational Programs

1. Purpose and Introduction:

This policy establishes the framework, principles, and procedures for affiliating external training and educational programs with the International Physical Therapy Academy (IPTA). The aim is to ensure that all affiliated programs maintain high standards of academic quality, professional integrity, and global recognition consistent with IPTA’s mission of advancing physiotherapy education and practice worldwide.

IPTA’s credibility is reinforced by multiple international recognitions and accreditations. It is a UK Recognized Learning Provider (UKRLP) and an Approved International CPD Provider (CPDG-UK), with full accreditation from the International Accreditation Council (IAC) under ISO 21001:2018 standards. IPTA is also recognized as an Accredited Dry Needling Training Provider by the International Board of Dry Needling (IDNB), and an Accredited Further Education Organization by the UK Education Quality Management (UKEQM). Furthermore, IPTA is a Recognized Affiliated Entity of the International Physical Therapy Network (IPTN). These accreditations affirm IPTA’s commitment to academic excellence, quality assurance, and global recognition.

2. Scope:

This policy applies to:

Professional training programs, certification courses, workshops, and continuing education initiatives seeking IPTA affiliation.

Institutions, academies, associations, hospitals, clinics, and independent training providers delivering physiotherapy or health-related programs.

Both short-term training programs and long-term structured educational offerings.

3. Definitions:

Affiliation: A formal recognition granted by IPTA to a program or institution that meets IPTA’s academic, professional, and operational standards.

Affiliate Program: Any training or educational activity officially endorsed or recognized by IPTA.

Host Institution: The organization delivering the program under IPTA affiliation.

IPTA Accreditation Committee (IAC): The body responsible for reviewing and approving affiliation applications.

4. Objectives of Affiliation:

To promote consistent global standards in physiotherapy education and training.

To support partner institutions in capacity building and quality improvement.

To provide participants with certificates recognized under IPTA’s global network.

To strengthen international collaboration, mobility, and knowledge exchange.

To ensure all affiliated programs align with IPTA’s ethical, professional, and academic principles.

5. Eligibility Criteria:

Institutions/programs applying for affiliation must demonstrate:

Legal Status – Registered as an educational or healthcare organization with proper authorization in its home country.

Faculty Qualifications – Trainers must hold relevant academic/professional credentials and recognized clinical experience.

Curriculum Quality – Programs must have a structured curriculum aligned with international standards.

Infrastructure – Adequate facilities (classrooms, labs, clinical sites, or digital platforms).

Ethical Compliance – Adherence to IPTA’s Code of Ethics and professional standards.

Assessment & Certification – Transparent evaluation methods and competency-based outcomes.

6. Application Process:

Submission of Application: Interested institutions submit the Affiliation Application Form with supporting documents.

Documentation Required:

Legal registration certificate.

Program curriculum and learning outcomes.

Faculty CVs and qualifications.

Facility/technology details (physical or digital).

Policies on student assessment and certification.

Application Fee: A non-refundable fee as determined by IPTA.

Review: The IAC reviews the application within 60 days.

Decision: Programs may be approved, conditionally approved (pending improvements), or rejected.

Agreement: Approved institutions sign an Affiliation Agreement outlining mutual responsibilities.

7. Responsibilities of Affiliated Programs:

Affiliated institutions/programs must:

Display IPTA affiliation status only as permitted in the agreement.

Ensure program delivery follows the approved curriculum.

Submit periodic reports (enrollment, completion rates, outcomes).

Allow IPTA audits, evaluations, and monitoring.

Maintain ethical practices, inclusivity, and compliance with IPTA policies.

Refrain from misrepresenting the affiliation as accreditation or full membership.

8. Responsibilities of IPTA:

IPTA shall:

Provide technical support and academic guidance.

Grant co-branded certificates for participants, where applicable.

Promote affiliated programs through IPTA platforms (web, publications, events).

Conduct periodic quality assurance visits/reviews.

Offer faculty development and collaborative opportunities ( programs terms and conditions applied ).

9. Certification:

Certificates issued for affiliated programs shall bear the IPTA logo and host institution’s logo, clearly marked “Affiliated Program”.

Wording will specify “This program is affiliated with IPTA and delivered by [Host Institution]”.

Certificates will not imply full IPTA membership or independent accreditation of the host institution.

10. Financial Arrangements:

Affiliation fees, or service costs shall be outlined in the Affiliation Agreement.

Host institutions are responsible for all operational expenses unless otherwise agreed.

IPTA reserves the right to adjust fees periodically.

11. Quality Assurance

Affiliated programs are subject to ongoing monitoring and periodic review.

IPTA may require corrective measures in cases of non-compliance.

Programs failing to meet standards may have affiliation suspended or revoked.

12. Duration & Renewal:

Affiliation is granted for a period of 3 years, unless otherwise specified.

Renewal requires submission of an updated application and review by the IAC.

IPTA reserves the right to terminate affiliation with due notice if standards are not upheld.

13. Termination of Affiliation:

Affiliation may be withdrawn if:

The host institution fails to comply with IPTA policies.

Misuse of IPTA’s name, logo, or credentials occurs.

Ethical or legal violations are identified.

Requested improvements are not implemented within specified timelines.

14. Appeals:

Institutions may appeal decisions on rejection, suspension, or termination by submitting a written request to the IPTA Executive Board within 30 days.

Final decisions rest with the Executive Board.
